Approximately 300 entries showed up for the 21st annual Music city Arabian Horse Show that was held at the newly renovated Calsonic Arena in Shelbyville, Tennessee.  Nothing has been spared to make this walking horse capitol of the world facility one of the nation's finest.  Southern hospitality, beautiful show grounds, safe facilities, and a happy atmosphere pervaded this three day Arabian event as many amateurs and youngsters enjoyed a pleasant weekend of competition without intense pressures that dominate some of the regional and national shows.  In fact, it reminded us of the more laid back shows some thirty years ago where fun and comaraderie were so apparent.

The Egyptian horses did particularly well at this show.  Ansata Iemhotep, shown for the first time by Steve Diamond, won champion and then supreme champion of the show.  The Egyptian-related Arcane El Jamal, by Ali Jamal x an Ansata El Sharif daughter, was shown to reserve champion stallion by Chris Ankerson, and straight Egyptian Shah el Hawaa by Imperial Imdal was shown by Steve Diamond to champion gelding.  Ansata Iemhotep gathered a new fan club as he began his career in performance with Steve Diamond of Diamond Equestrian Center.  Although Steve only had Hotep in training for two weeks before the show, although the horse was only green broke, Steve was determined to win the costume championship on his new found friend.  Surprisingly enough he accomplished his goal.  Clad in his winning maroon Arabian costume, Steve guided Hotep to the blue ribbon against other polished performers in his first class, and then went on to win the costume championship - thus qualifying him in both halter and performance for the U.S. Nationals.  "Performance with Presence" is an apt description of Hotep under saddle - and there is no doubt that this is a special new costume class team that spectators love.         JUDITH FORBIS

This show was a historical event, as one of the champions was shown by a blind handler.
